I am always on the hunt for additions to my arm party and I am sure you noticed a couple new dainty additions in my outfit post today. These precious pieces are from dmkSwag, a local jewelry designer I have quickly fallen in love with. I am always one to fall for items with a story (hence my vintage obsession) and when I found out she was a local designer (I am always trying to support the DC local fashion industry), I knew I had to own some of this storyteller’s jewelry. Plus, I have been the envy of fellow yogis in my yoga classes lately when I rock these. I knew I had to share my new love. Here is what Deena, creator of dmkSwag, told me about her bracelets:
Most of my jewelry is conceptual, it has a meaning behind it, for example, there are karma bracelets, infinity bracelets, and most of all evil eye bracelets. I love the idea of the evil eye for many reasons, one of which being that many cultures share this symbol as an emulate of protection. For years, I’ve been traveling the world collecting and wearing evil eye bracelets in stacks. After I visited Istanbul Turkey last year I was so inspired to make these high quality, stylish accessories. I did my research and learned how to make these bracelets myself, using the same quality materials. I even went as far as purchasing authentic glass evil eye beads from Istanbul, Turkey.
This jewelry line started sort of by accident, at first, I made them solely for myself . Turns out, girls (and some guys) everywhere asked me where I got my bracelets. I literally started to sell them off of my wrists. So after months of this, I decided to share the wealth and make these gorgeous bracelets for everyone at an affordable price. All bracelets are made with the highest quality 22 karat gold-plated beads and glass evil eyes. All bracelets compliment each other and are meant for stacking because, clearly, you cannot wear just one!
I completely agree! A way to add a pop of color to your arm party, support local DC fashion and a story to tell when showing them off to your friends?! Yes, please!
